# Migration from edgeGate to SDEX Suite Gateway

This procedure migrates an existing edgeGate device to the SDEX Suite Gateway platform.

## Important Notes

- The migration process typically takes **5–6 minutes**.
- During the migration, the **adminUI** may temporarily become unavailable.
- Applications, shown as containers in the adminUI, may start sequentially during system initialization.
- The migration is complete only when all containers display the status **Running** in the adminUI.
- Existing licenses are preserved during the migration.
- Existing edgeConnection licenses cannot be used with SDEX Suite connections.
- New licenses are required to use SDEX Suite functionality.
- SDEX Suite licenses can be activated either before or after the migration.
- The device hostname, IP addresses, and password remain unchanged after the migration.
- The **`edgeGate_to_SDEX_Suite_Gateway.tar.gz`** migration package does not require internet access.

## Requirements

Before starting the migration, ensure the following prerequisites are met:

- The edgeGate device is running **adminUI version 1.20.1**
- The **`edgeGate_to_SDEX_Suite_Gateway.tar.gz`** migration package is available locally

## Migration Procedure

1. Open the adminUI in a web browser:

   ```text
   https://[device-ip]:5000
   ```

2. In the adminUI, click **Upload from file**.

3. Select the `edgeGate_to_SDEX_Suite_Gateway.tar.gz` file.

4. Wait for the migration to complete.

   The migration typically completes within **5–6 minutes**.

   > **Warning**
   > During the migration, the adminUI may temporarily become unavailable.
   >
   > Do not:
   > - interact with the adminUI
   > - power off the device
   > - reboot the device
   >
   > Interrupting the migration can corrupt the system installation and may leave the device unusable.

5. After the adminUI has restarted, refresh the page and reconnect to the adminUI.

6. If the migration does not complete successfully, or if the adminUI remains inaccessible after 10 minutes, contact Softing Technical Support.

## Verification

Verify that:

- All containers display the status **Running** in the adminUI
- The adminUI is accessible
- The configured hostname is unchanged
- The configured adminUI password is unchanged
- The configured IP addresses are unchanged
- Existing licenses are still present
